Mrs. Eloise McDowell Rice, 86, of 1028 Whitner Drive Anderson, SC, passed away on Thursday, June 16, 2016.  She was the fourth child born to Idozer and Ida Graffinread McDowell on December 23, 1929.  She was married to Whitner D.S. Rice, Jr. in February of 1948.  Both were members of Evergreen Baptist Church.

She worked in housekeeping, in addition to working in the textile industry at J. P. Stevens in Anderson, SC.  She also worked in the childcare industry.

She was the mother of Helen (Jimmy) Thomas, Lillie (Nicky) Jones, Gail (Stanley) Jackson, Hilda (Joe) Patterson, Cedrick Rice, and Timothy Rice.  She was the sister of Idozer McDowell, Jr. and Herbert (Virginia) McDowell.  She will be missed by friends and family alike, including ten grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Whitner D.S. Rice, Jr.; parents, Idozer and Ida McDowell; son, Dwight Rice; and sisters, Dorothy Strickland and Pearl Lee Callahan.

The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 20, 2016 in the Ollie Robinson Brown Memorial Chapel of Marcus D. Brown Funeral Home.  The interment will follow at M.J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery.  The family will receive friends one hour before the service on Monday.
