On Sunday, April 21, 2024, Tecora Speed Giles departed this earth and ascended to heaven to receive her eternal reward. She was born on March 17, 1936 to the late Jahue Speed and Geneva Gilliard Speed Reed. She was the youngest of five children.
On June 15, 1958, she was married to Benjamin Franklin Giles. From this union, they had two children, Carolyn M Giles-McBride and preceded in death, one son, Dennis L. Giles. Tecora Giles graduated from Westside High School in 1955. She worked at Ideal Toy Corporation for over ten years. Then, she began her career at Fire Department of New York in 1981. She later retired from the Department of Investigations of FDNY after twenty-seven years.
Tecora Giles joined Generostee Baptist Church at a young age until she moved to New York. She later became a member of Faith, Worship, Praise, and Deliverance Tabernacle in Brooklyn, NY. Under Bishop Joseph B. Crooms leadership, she was ordained as a deacon. After retirement and returning to South Carolina, she joined Piney Grove Baptist Church in Sandy Springs, SC. She not only served as a deacon, but also served as superintendent of Sunday School. She served in ministry, but she also loved her flowers and garden, while spending time with her family and sharing her knowledge of the Word and current events.
Tecora Speed Giles leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Carolyn M Giles-McBride (Alexander), Jamaica, NY; one sister, Estella Arnold (late Jesse), Anderson, SC; three sisters-in-law and two brothers-in law; Edna (Robert) Waller, New Castle, DE, Edward (Sandria) Giles, Pendleton, SC; Janice (late Ollie Enlo Jr.) Giles, Chattanooga, TN, and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin F. Giles, brothers, Walter H. Speed, Samuel L Speed, and Hosea Speed, Sr.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 8, 2024 at Piney Grove Baptist Church. The interment will follow at M.J. "Dolly" Cooper Veterans Cemetery. Public viewing will be held on Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
