Mr. James H. Calhoun went to be with the Lord at 4:40 am on Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at Richard Campbell Veterans Nursing Home.
He was born in Calhoun Falls, SC to the late Harold and Ellen Lomax Calhoun. James joined the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War. He retired from BASF after almost 25 years of service and was a devoted church member of Generostee Baptist Church, where he served on the Senior Usher Board.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Donna Brown Calhoun; daughters, Sharon (Greg) Allen, Lorrie Brown, and Lola (Thomas) Wansley; sons, Mickey Brown , Ricky Brown, Jamie Sanders, Robbie (Tina) Brown, Lester (Janice) Brown, and Chris (Rosie) Calhoun; sisters, Alice (Jasper) Ingram and Inez (Manfield) Barge; grandchildren reared in the home, LaSherrie (Tommy) Johnson, Ricky Brown, Jr. and Rameez Brown; eighteen grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; son-in-law, Gary McCullough; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Ellen Calhoun; first wife, Gallena McDuffie Calhoun; daughters, Melanie McCullough and LaVelle Jones; son, Jimmy Brown; sisters, Ethel Davis, Martha Lee, and Alverna Whitter; brothers, John Calhoun, Dallas Calhoun, Clarence Calhoun, and William Calhoun; and one granddaughter, Lakia Calhoun.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, July 8, 2019 at Generostee Baptist Church. The interment will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at M.J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery.
