Mr. Randolph Morris departed this life Saturday, October 20, 2018. He was born to the late Sherman and Mabel Lee Morris and was also reared by the late Estella Anderson Morris (Stepmother). He was born and raised in Anderson County and a graduate from New Deal High School in 1957.
Randolph was a retired Allstate (Morris Agency) Insurance Agent of 35 years. He left his position with the City of Anderson as a mechanic and broke through long-existing racial barriers as one of the first 2 police officers of African American decent for the City of Anderson. He served side-by-side with his partner and close friend Mr. Calvin (Bobby) Clinkscales; serving as influential examples for future African American Police Officers of 1965. He was also the owner of Morris Garage, Johnson Laundromat, All God’s Children Learning Center and Morris Gospel Music and Ice Cream Parlor. He served as Superintendent of the Rocky River Baptist Association, Sunday School Superintendent, Deacon, and Choir Leader. He loved singing, laughter, fishing, swimming, and the outdoors.
He leaves to mourn his wife, Barbara Hall-Morris, and was married to the late Doris Lee Morris; two sisters Ina (Solomon) Lundy of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Willie Mae Morris–Cox of Brooklyn, New York; four children, Miranda Abigale (Tim) Acker, Sherwin Morris, and Ray Anthony (Michele) Morris all of Anderson, SC, Randy O’neal Morris of Honolulu, Hawaii; Ralph Morris (reared in the home) of Cincinnati, Ohio, eleven grandchildren, four great grandchildren and a host of family and friends.
Preceded in his death were four sisters, Prudence Groves of Cincinnati Ohio, Minnie Lee Brown, Elizabeth George of Anderson, SC, and Bertha McLaughlin of Brooklyn, New York; four brothers, Sherman (Nate) of Anderson, SC, Ralph, William (Bill), and Lynn Morris of Cincinnati, Ohio.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at King David Baptist Church. The interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour before the funeral service.
