Barbara B. (Rice) Hall

Barbara was a beloved wife, mom, and friend.  She passed away on February 23, 2024, at the age of 79. She was born August 10, 1944 in Anderson, S.C. to Whitner and Geneva Rice. Barbara grew up in a close-knit family and was raised with a strong sense of community and responsibility.

Barbara had a successful career. She attended Central Wesleyan College in Central, S.C., where she received a Master's in Early Childhood Education. She worked for Head Start Early Learning Center for many years. But she did not stop there. After retiring, she went on to get her Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and started a new career at the Department of Social Services. Outside of her professional life, Barbara had a deep passion for family and loved to preach and teach. She was a faithful member of Salem Missionary Baptist Church. She later married Curtis Hall and moved her letter to Ebenezer Baptist Church, where she served as a Preacher, a teacher for the Young Adult Bible Study and Sunday School class, and Choir Director for both the Youth Choir as well as the Gospel Choir.

She leaves to cherish her memory, two children, Tanika Hall Kelley (Wayne Kelley, Jr.) and Tony Hall (Emma Gail); six grandchildren, (Margret Hall (Brittany Jackson), Jordan Hall, Octavia Hall (Evan-Michael) Ellison, Brandon Hall, Domiya’ Wright, Domonta’ Wright; five great-grandchildren, Armani Wright, Jordan Hall, Israel Hall, Laiyah Wright, Essence Ellison; six siblings, her twin brother, Bobby (Francis) Rice, Cora Rice Winbush, Charlie (Minnie) Rice, Elizabeth Rice Scott, John (Barbara) Rice; Jessie Rice; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Hall; four brothers; Carter Rice, Theodore Rice Jr., D.S. Rice, and Donald Rice; and four sisters, Mable Rice Wright, Rachel Rice Wardlaw, Gladys Rice Scott, and Thelma Rice Willams.

The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2024 in the Ollie Robinson Brown Memorial Chapel of Marcus D. Brown Funeral Home.  The interment will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, March 4 at M.J. "Dolly" Cooper Veterans Cemetery. Public viewing Friday from 1:00 - 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
