Clyde Berry

Clyde Berry, formerly of Anderson, South Carolina, passed away on July 22, 2020 in Dayton, Ohio.

Clyde was born on September 20, 1929 Anderson County and attended Generostee Baptist Church, Starr, South Carolina, until he relocated to Dayton, Ohio in the late 1950’s.  He loved to sing and praise the Lord and was a faithful member and deacon at the First Thessalonian Missionary Baptist Church in Dayton Ohio where he was affectionately known as the “Singing Deacon.” 

A dedicated worker, Clyde was employed by General Motors/AM General for 40 years until he retired at age 85 due to declining health. Upon retirement, he received a commendation for being the first and only employee to have never called in late and had perfect attendance during his entire 40-year tenure with the company.  

Clyde was the youngest and last surviving child of Lawyer and Fannie (Hall) Berry, who preceded him in death, along with his four brothers, R. L., Mack, L.T. and Cassie Berry and five sisters, Annie Ruth Martin, Sylvene Crawford, Cleo Brown, Ruby Speed and Corrine Berry.  He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Thornton) Berry of Dayton, Ohio and a host of nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews and other family and friends around the country.

Graveside services will be held in Dayton, Ohio on Thursday, July 30, 2020. Services are entrusted to: H. H. Roberts Mortuary, Inc. 38. S. Gettysburg Avenue Dayton, Ohio 45417.
