Dorothy Menchan Obituary

Dorothy R. Menchan, 75, was born and raised in Anderson County, S.C. to the late George and Dorothy Randolph. She was the seventh oldest of eleven siblings. The Lord called her home on March 1, 2024 after several years of suffering with Alzheimer’s disease.

In 1970, Dorothy received her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Morris College in Sumter, South Carolina.  After graduation, she accepted her sister Inez’s invitation to join her in Calvert County, Maryland. There she began her teaching career of 34 years at Mt. Hope Elementary School followed by Beach Elementary School. Dorothy truly loved teaching and mentoring teachers. She wanted every student to excel and do their best. She received her Master’s degree in Elementary
Education from Bowie State University in 1977.

Above all, Dorothy loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She sought to bring Him glory through her life and service to Him. At an early age, Dorothy accepted Christ as her Savior and joined Mount Moriah Church in Starr, S.C. Her faith continued to grow in the Lord at Grace Brethren Church (Temple Hills) and Calvert Grace Community Church (Owings). Dorothy poured out her heart of love for the Lord and worshipped Him as she sang in the choir, as she folded the church bulletins, and prayed with the
prayer and care ministry.

Dorothy married the love of her life, Dillard Menchan on March 10, 2001. They enjoyed numerous social activities. Their relationship grew as they spent time praying for others and studying God’s Word together.

Dorothy loved and cared for her family very much. She was preceded in death by her parents George and Dorothy Randolph; brother Stonewall and wife Annie Ruth; brother Richard and wife Jean; brother Dr. William S. and wife Doris; sister-in-law Fannie; her nieces Janie, Carolyn, and great nephew Avery.

Dorothy is survived by her loving husband of almost 23 years, Dillard Menchan; stepson Orin; step-grandson Micah; siblings: Charles C. Randolph, Inez (Eugene) Jones, Rev. George H. (Norma) Randolph, Ida Randolph (Melvin Tucker), Betty (Larry) Gray, John (Brenda) Randolph, and Barbara (Lewis) Frederick; god-daughter, Jonita (Lesley) Joseph and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
