Edmonia Thompson Brown entered eternal rest at the AnMed Health Medical Center on Wednesday, January 12, 2022. She was born June 3, 1937, in Anderson, South Carolina to the late Elliott and Bessie Mae Henry Thompson.
She joined St. Paul Baptist Church at an early age and attended there until her death. She also attended Shiloh Baptist Church occasionally with her husband. At St. Paul Baptist Church, she served as musician for the Sunday School, and she was the musician at the Shiloh Baptist Church in Townville, SC.
She was a graduate of Westside High School; she attended Benedict College where she was a member of the Benedict Choral Group and received a BA degree in English with a concentration in Education. She completed her master’s degree at Clemson University in education.
Her teaching career included years at Westside High School and Southwood Middle School. She retired after 35 or more years.
During the time that she was able, she was actively involved in many organizations which included: the Retired Teachers’ Association, the Eastern Stars, the Quettes of Omega Psi Phi, Jack and Jill of America, Inc. and she was a Life Member of Kappa Zeta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
She was married to the late Odell Anthony (O.A.) Brown. This union lasted for 52 years. Her children are Dororthy, Xavier, Tanaze, Shaneiqua, Stephanie, Whitney, and Tarik. She leaves 18 grandchildren and many relatives and friends.
Her husband, her parents and her sister, Betty Jean Hall, preceded her in death.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 22, 2022 in the Ollie Robinson Brown Memorial Chapel of Marcus D. Brown Funeral Home. The interment will be held at 12:00 Noon on Monday, January 24 Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery in Townville, SC.
Public viewing will be held on Friday, January 21 from 1:00 until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family will be at their respective homes.
Direction to Shiloh Baptist Church from Burger King on Hwy 28/Hwy 24: Turn onto Hwy. 24. Drive 13.5 miles into Townville, SC. Turn right onto 92/Hatcher Road. Hatcher Road will turn into Conneross Road. The address to the church is 507 Conneross Road Townville, SC.
