Mrs. Helen Kelley Williams, the daughter of the late Theressa Pilgrim Kelley and Javan Belton Kelley, Sr., was born April 19, 1933 in Fountain Inn, South Carolina. She passed away on Wednesday, October 25, 2023 at AnMed Health Medical Center in Anderson, South Carolina.
Mrs. Williams graduated from South Carolina State University, where she received both her Bachelor of Science and Master of Education degrees. She retired as a Guidance Counselor from Pendleton High School, located in Pendelton, South Carolina in 1998. She was a lifelong member of New Liberty Baptist Church in Fountain Inn, South Carolina. She attended Royal Baptist Church in Anderson, South Carolina on a regular basis until the COVID-19 epidemic. She was a member of Royal Baptist Church Missionary Society, The Retired Teachers Association and a charter member of the Kappa Zeta Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated in Anderson, SC.
Mrs. Williams met her husband of 55 years, John D. Williams, Jr., while matriculating in graduate school. They made their home in Anderson, South Carolina. To this union two daughters were born: Tia Nimoy Williams, who preceded her in death, and Sherri Williams Synsmir of the home.
In addition to her husband and daughter, she leaves happy memories to her brother, Nathaniel Kelley of Simpsonville, South Carolin; two sisters, Issie (Rev. Alfred) Wright of Greenville, South Carolina and Cynthia J. Kelley of Mauldin, South Carolina; and a host of relatives and friends.
The funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on October 31, 2023 in the Ollie Robinson Brown Memorial Chapel of Marcus D. Brown Funeral Home. The interment will follow at M.J. "Dolly" Cooper Veterans Cemetery. Public viewing will be held on Monday from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.
