James Pressley Quarles

Mr. James Pressley Quarles Sr. was born on May 24, 1942 in McCormick SC to the late Mr. Pressley and Mrs. Carrie Dean Quarles. He departed this life on December 21, 2021 at his home at the age of 79.

He was educated in the McCormick County School system. He later moved to Sandy Springs SC with his family.  James married Estella Wheaton and to this union 4 sons were
born.  James was a laid back but serious person. He loved his family and watching westerns. He was employed with Oglesby Brothers Concrete as foreman for 3o+ years until his retirement. He took pride in his work taking his craft very seriously. He loved showing others how to do the work of a concrete finisher. After his health started failing, James would be somewhere waiting to help someone pour concrete.  He was also active in his faith, first at Fairview AME Church and later New Holly Light Missionary Baptist Church. He sang on the choir at each church.

James is survived by his wife of 57 years, Estella Wheaton Quarles, sons Anthony Quarles, Joseph Quarles and Min. John David Quarles all of Pendleton, SC; granddaughters, Jaddiah and Jasmine Quarles. He is also survived by brothers, Johnnie Quarles, Jessie Quarles, and Robert Quarles, sisters Paulette Gaines and Janie Pickens. James also leaves behind an uncle John Dean (Sallie), in-laws; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son James P. (PeeWee) Quarles Jr.; sisters, Mammie Sheppard, Savannah Beard and Martha Kemp; brother, Isaiah Quarles.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 27, 2021 in the Ollie Robinson Brown Memorial Chapel of Marcus D. Brown Funeral Home.  The interment will follow at New Light Cemetery.

Public viewing will be held on Sunday, December 26, 2021 from 1:00 until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
