On July 25, 1970, the world became a little bit brighter because Lamoncyon Arniz Sutton was born. As the youngest in the family born to Airlethia M. Sutton and James A. Sutton, the family gave him the nickname "Monk" and later "Heavy D". Abbeville, South Carolina has been the ancestral home of the family. He was educated in Abbeville County Schools and graduated from Dixie High School in 1988.
Monk was employed at E-Z Auto on Auto Tops, Inc. in Iva, SC. He loved his family, children, and especially his grandchildren. He also enjoyed family gatherings, posting memes to make people laugh, fishing, showing off his cooking skills, driving nice cars, playing video games, working, and helping others. He had a big heart and was a hero to all who knew him. He would go the extra mile for you if he could.
Wonderful memories of a life well lived are shared by those closest to him, his two daughters, Da'Veuania B. Groves of Charlotte, NC, Zenaya Sutton of Anderson, SC; two grandchildren, Brielle and Breysen Harkness; two sisters, Linda J. McCoppin-Bowie of Starr, SC and Brenda Brown of New Jersey; one brother, Landra B. McCoppin of the home; a special partner, Yolanda Hill, her children, Lakeja Hill, Janiya Hill, and Eimillio Robinson and grandchildren, Zaxton and Zaylor Hill, who he cared deeply for. He also leaves wonderful memories to a host of aunts, uncles, other relatives, and close friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Dalvin Tillman.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 23, 2023 in the Ollie Robinson Brown Memorial Chapel of Marcus D. Brown Funeral Home. The interment will follow at Rocky River A.M.E. Church Cemetery. Public viewing will be held on Friday from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.
The family is at the home of his aunt, Rev. Sandra M. Smith, 33 McCoppin Dr., Abbeville, SC 29620.
