Mr. Leonard Alvin McCowan was born, August 24, 1940 in Knoxville, TN to the late Reverend and Sister Charles (Grace) McCowan. He departed this life on December 4, 2020 at home.
Leonard moved to Anderson, SC with his parents and siblings at the age of nine years old. His father was the pastor of Fuller Temple FBH Church. He attended Westside High School and had some college courses. He was magnificent in mathematics and problem-solving. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He had a passion for the guitar and bass guitar. He moved his membership from Fuller Temple FBH Church to join Mt. Herman Baptist Church with his wife, Ruby Nell Freeman McCowan where they provided the music ministry for the church.
He is survived by one daughter, J. Mechele McCowan of Nashville, TN, two sons, Shawn (Lashica) McCowan and Xerxes Moss of Anderson, SC. Has a total of five grandchildren. Three sister - n - laws, Rachael McCowan of Atlanta, GA, Vernell McCowan and Reverend Doris ( Ulysses) Gray of Anderson, SC and a host of relatives.
He preceded in death by his wife, parents, and two sisters: Millicent Sackett and Constance "Honey" McCowan Jackson and two brothers: Charles McCowan and Gordon McCowan.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 12, 2020 in the Ollie Robinson Brown Memorial Chapel of Marcus D. Brown Funeral Home. The interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.
Friends may pay their respects and send floral arrangements on Friday from 1:00 - 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
