Mr. Luther “Sheppy” Gaines Richardson of Pendleton, SC passed away on Tuesday, September 28th, 2021 at the age of 57.
Sheppy was born in Boston, Massachusetts on April 23rd, 1964. At the age of 14, he and his family left Boston to live in Pendleton, South Carolina. He attended Pendleton High School and afterwards joined the United States Army and was stationed in Hawaii. He later moved back to Pendleton and worked in various plant jobs around Anderson SC.
Even though the Man was taken out of Boston, Boston was never taken out of the Man. Sheppy was known for his love of all Boston sports. He was always wearing hats and clothing, sporting his favorite teams. Sheppy had a wonderful way of telling stories and loved talking about his favorite life memories with friends and family. If you were lucky enough to know him, you would never forget him.
He was preceded in death by his mom, Sylvia Richardson; father, Ponce De Leon Gaines Sr.; sister, Eleanor Hunter; and nephew, Raymond "Ricky" Hunter.
Sheppy leaves to cherish his memories, his daughter, Natasha Johnson of Anderson, SC; sons, Catlin Coward of Anderson SC, Marcus Whitner and Dacus Whitner both of Townville, SC; two sisters, Margaret Pless-Hunter of Boston MA and Sharon Richardson Brown (Dean Brown) of Waldorf MD; brother, Ponce De Leon Gaines of Boston, MA; and two grandchildren, Caliah Dre'Onna Coward and Karson Ze'Air Castañeda. He also leaves his nieces, Michelle Pless-Joseph (John Joseph) and Rebecca Hunter both of Boston, MA; nephews, Albert Wayne Pless (LaKisha Mallory Pless) of Boston, MA and Ashley Richardson (Brittany Blanding Richardson) of Anderson, SC. Also left to mourn his passing is a host of great grands, great nieces, great nephews, many cousins and loving friends.
Public viewing will be held on Friday, October 8, 2021 from 1:00 until 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
The funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 9, 2021 in the Ollie Robinson Brown Memorial Chapel of Marcus D. Brown Funeral Home. The interment will follow at Holly Springs Cemetery. The repast will take place after the Interment. Details will be announced at the service.
