Murray Hunter Obituary

Reverend Murray E. Hunter, Jr., 92, was born in Abbeville, SC on September 16, 1931 to the late Reverend Murray and Esther Hunter, Sr.  Murray entered into eternal rest on Monday, October 9, 2023.

Murray was the fifth child of ten siblings. He joined the United States Army in 1953, where he served for eight years.  He later became self-employed through various business ventures. In 1957, he married his lovely wife, Alice Squire Hunter and from this union God blessed them with seven beautiful children.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Reverend Murray and Esther Hunter, Sr.; his wife, Alice Squire Hunter; two daughters, Shirley Hunter Barrett and Mary Vera Hunter; one son, Dean Martin; and eight siblings.

He leaves to cherish his memory, five children, Delores Hunter Williamson (Frank) of Savannah, GA, Daryl Hunter, Jeremiah Hunter, (Roberta), Nehemiah Hunter, and Glory Hunter all of Waldorf, Maryland; one brother, Paul Hunter of Brooklyn, N.Y.; his caregiver, Patrica Epps; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 23, 2023 in the Ollie Robinson Brown Memorial Chapel of Marcus D. Brown Funeral Home.  Pastor Deborah Squire will officiate the service.

The inurnment will take place at M.J. "Dolly" Cooper Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
