Roosevelt Massey entered into rest March 6, 2024. He went peacefully in his home. Roosevelt was born March 19, 1942. He was a member of Welfare Baptist Church in Belton, South Carolina. He was a graduate of Westside High School and Tri-County Technical College. He retired from JPS Composite Material after 50 years of service. He also worked as a Sergeant with the Anderson Police Department and volunteered with the Civil Air Patrol.
On June 18, 1965, Roosevelt married the love of his life, Betty Massey. They were married for 54 years. Through their union, 4 children were born.
Roosevelt enjoyed bowling, fishing, working in his garden and his yard. He loved helping his neighbors, traveling, doing community events and going to classic car shows.
Roosevelt is survived by his sons, Lawrence "Whammy" Massey and Michael Anthony Massey (Kamilah); daughter, Michelle Denise Massey (Akolade); brother, William Charles Smith; two sisters-in-law, Florence Smith and Betty Sanders; thirteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Roosevelt was preceded in death by his parents, Alonzo and Jeanette Massey, Bernice Sanders; his wife, Betty Jean Massey; son, Roosevelt Massey, Jr.; sisters, Mary "Sweet Pea" McAlister, Sylvene Mattison, Dorcena Smith, Alberta Smith, and Eleanor West; brothers, Sylvester Barlow Sanders, Herman Smith, Houston Smith, James Smith and Lilton Smith.
The funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 10, 2024 in the Ollie Robinson Brown Memorial Chapel of Marcus D. Brown Funeral Home. Public viewing Saturday from 1:00 - 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The funeral service will be live-streamed from the Marcus D. Brown Funeral Home's Facebook page.
