Deacon Waymon C. Hunter, 90, passed away on June 11, 2022 at Linley Park Rehabilitation Center. He was born to Samuel and Annie Mae Harper Hunter, the 7th child of 10 children, in Anderson, South Carolina.

Waymon C. attended Anderson County Training School, in the Anderson public school system. On February 4, 1953, he enlisted in the United States Army where he was ranked as Specialist Third Class; he was honorably discharged from military service, June 26, 1958. After his military service, he went on to work at Clemson University before going to Gerrish Milliken, where he retired after working 25 years. Not one to stay at home, Waymon C. went on to work at Sears Department store for an additional 10 years.

On December 20, 1971, Waymon C. married his wife of 50 years, Mrs. Bonnie Jean Hunter. Together they raised their three children and grandson Sheldon. His wife, Bonnie, referred to him as her “honey.”

Known for his calm temperament, Waymon C. was also a man of faith. He was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church, where he served on the deacon board, until his health no longer allowed him to serve. A faithful Bible study-goer, he sang in the male choir, and enjoyed singing his favorite hymns while leading devotion. He will always be fondly remembered by his friends and family as a quiet and gentle man, who would give you the shirt off his back.

Waymon C. is survived by his loving wife Bonnie, their daughter Jacqueline (Ernest) Gibbs, his sister Mamie Hunter-Williford, and sister-in-law Zenobia Hunter-Blanding. He was preceded in death by his son Roderick Williams Sr., daughter Juanita Williams, brothers U.T. Douglass, Johnny J. Hunter, and a baby brother, Rufus Hunter, who passed shortly after birth. He was also preceded in death by 5 sisters: Idella Williams, Katie Mae Cornwell, Eloise Jenkins, Marie Johnson, and Annie Lene Patterson. To cherish his memory, he leaves behind grandchildren, Sheldon (Talisha) Williams, Roderick (Heidi) Williams Jr., Schameka (Justin) Barnes, Ernest Gibbs III, Bonnie Gibbs, and Giovanni Gibbs, 8 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. He also leaves a host of loving nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
