Mr. Willie Dee Hill was born on April 5th, 1948 in Chattanooga, Tennessee to Willie Mae and Willie Dee Hill, Sr. He confessed his love for Christ at an early age and joined Greenwood Baptist Church in Shady Dale, GA. He attended high school in Jasper County, Georgia and graduated in 1966. The following year he enlisted in the Armed Services, where he earned the rank of Sargent and completed 2 tours in Vietnam. While serving in Vietnam, "Dee" as he was affectionately known by family and friends, earned a Bronze Cross for saving his platoon when they came under fire and ran low on ammunition. Dee not only rescued his platoon, but he crawled to a nearby platoon and led them to safety as well. Dee was the epitome of a leader and had a heart of gold on and off the battlefield.
While serving in Vietnam he was introduced to Joan Morris by an army buddy, T.S. Owens. They married in February of 1971 and to this union two children were born, Fredrick Antione Hill (Courtney) and Shannon Natasha Hill-Gimba (Abdulrazak). In May of 2000 he retired from Chrysler Motor Company and immediately took the unofficial position as Mark Twain porch monitor where he served along side of his best friend and brother Jim. Nothing went on or got pass this dynamic duo and if it did .... they would offer you their version of the events. Dee loved to attend family events and was a constant fixture at cook outs or family gatherings. He was a man of few words and many plates! If he didn't take a plate from the cookout that means the food just wasn't that good.....!
Dee also leaves to cherish his memory two grandchildren, Phylicia Renee Wheatley and Malachi Antione Hill, five brothers, Jimmie Lee Broadus (Betty), Robert Jim Rhodes (Andrea), Eddie Rhodes, Otis Rhodes (Robbie), and Edwin Rhodes, as well as two sisters, Martha Ann Riley and Rosa Lee Terrell. He is also survived by host of nieces and nephews, and other family and friends that will forever cherish his memory.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by brothers, James David Broadus and Edward Charles Rhodes.
Dee passed away on October 15, 2021 in Detroit, MI.
