To Daddy, Aunt Malinda, Aunt Louise, Aunt Bobbie, Aunt Deborah, Aunt Lois, Aunt Tracey, Uncle Don, Uncle Steve, and family:
The loss of our most valuable family member is difficult, painful, and words cannot suffice. However, knowing that we have been able to be a part of her life, we can realize that we are blessed to have been able to share in it. We could have never been prepared for her loss; but, the many fond memories of Mama Dot’s wisdom, love of family and family history, laughter, toughness, independence, witty unpredictably, and no-nonsense bring us comfort during this time of bereavement. For everything she has done for us in life, we owe her our eternal love and promise that she will never be forgotten. May God grant her peace and the well-deserved rest.
With love,
Roy Kyle Hanks
grandson

My condolences to the families. Ms. Dorothy was undoubtedly one of the sweetest, kindest, and most interesting woman i have ever known. I loved the way when she saw you, she took such an interest in you and wanted to know who you are and who your parents are. I will always remember her! May your many memories of her give you comfort at this time.

Her Journey's Just Begun
Don't think of her as gone away -
Her journey has just begun
Life holds many facets
The Earth is only one
Just think of her as resting
From the sorrows and the tears
In a place of warmth and comfort
Where there are no days and years
Think how she must be wishing
That we could know today
How nothing but our sadness
can really pass away
And think of her as living
In the hearts of those she touched
For nothing loved is ever lost-
And she was loved so much.

Family - I have memories to last a lifetime of our wonderful summers spent in Pendleton with our grandparents, Uncle Larry, Aunt Glennie, Aunt Janie, Momma Dot and a host of cousins. Momma Dot and Daddy Roy's home was one of our "go to homes" as we ran between there , grandma & granddaddy's home, Uncle Marcus' and Linda's. All of our aunts cared for us during those times as if we were their own...coming to get us from the train station in Clemson, giving us change for Quick Way, making sure we ate, had a place to sleep and so much more!! I will remember Momma Dot's love of hats, sense of fashion, love for her family, her deep faith and her no nonsense way of speaking her mind. As Alzheimer's began to really take our mom, her memories of her parents and siblings never left. She would revert back to childhood in her mind and "orally speak" to each of them as if the moment was just happening. Momma always talked about "Dorothy" or "Dot" for she loved her so very much.
I pray you find peace in the memories you have of your mom & grandmother. No matter how old we are, and as we can attest, losing a mother is one of the deepest sorrows a heart can know, but her goodness, her caring and her wisdom live on... like a legacy of love that will remain with you always.
With heartfelt condolences,
Tina

Due to business that will have me away from home, I regretfully will not be able to attend the service. I offer my condolences for your loss to a mother to a sister to my aunty, a woman who was very instrumental in me becoming the person I am today and for that I am grateful. May God hold you and keep you and let you rest assured that she is in a much better place.
